The relationship between artist and the arts teacher is complicated. On the one hand the artist qualities attributed to enrich education. On the other hand artists are relative outsiders in arts education, by the disappearance of the model of pupil-apprentice-master. At the same time the supposed opposition between artist and teacher ignores the reality that many art teachers also maintain an active art practice. All this makes collaboration between education and the contemporary artists (sometimes) problematic.
